What it detects

This rule detects the cups-browsed or foomatic-rip printing components spawning a shell interpreter which is the execution primitive of the OpenPrinting CUPS vulnerabilities CVE-2024-47076 CVE-2024-47175 CVE-2024-47176 and CVE-2024-47177. This is important because a spoofed printer advertisement causes attacker-controlled commands to run when a print job is submitted so a printing daemon launching a shell strongly indicates exploitation of these flaws.
